Polaroid Announces 'Kids Tablet 2' Kid-friendly Slate

Kids today are growing up in a world dominated by technology. As a result, the age at which they get their hands on devices like tablets and smartphones continues to drop. That said, many parents are uncomfortable giving their children such expensive or delicate machines. Who wants to spend $500 on an iPad for their 7-year-old only to have him or her crack the screen after a week?

Enter the Kids Tablet 2, Polaroid's Android tablet design just for children. The Kids Tablet 2 is a follow on to the 7-inch Kids Tablet Polaroid announced at CES 2013 earlier this year. While the first generation Kids tablet was based on a 1 GHz Cortex-A8 SoC and boasted an 800 x 600 display, the new model packs a dual-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A9 CPU and a 1024 x 600 resolution display. Priced at $149, the tablet also has a front-facing camera, a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, a ruggedized casing, and Android 4.2.

Of course, it wouldn't be a kid-friendly tablet without some kid-friendly content. To that end, Polaroid has jammed 70 apps and books onto the Kids Tablet 2. This includes content from the likes of Disney, Cartoon Network, and Marvel. There's also parental controls in play so you can restrict browsing, camera use, email, search and more.

Judging by the photo, I'd say yes. You can just make out the wifi icon, next to the battery and volume icons.

I am absolutely amazed that Polaroid is still alive and kicking. That's not derogatory in any way, I'm just genuinely stunned!

Yeah seriously. I still have my circa-1995 Polaroid camera that took instant photos. Of course those are better than the ones that come off my smart phone.

I doubt polaroid is still "alive and kicking" as you might suggest. They are probably more like RCA where the name was purchased and the company gutted. The only real employees they have are a couple of engineers which spec out what they want to a chinese supplier, but don't do any real design work. Then the new parent company just uses the logo and brand reputation to sell relabeled chinese garbage.

The tabs are made by Southern Telecom

They spec them and ST makes and supports them.
They have been selling tabs for a couple of years now.

They announced and showed new tabs M7 and M10 earlier this year which had great prices and specs, but they never met the spring release sadly.

Their tabs are popular as the early ones came rooted. Later ones are easily rooted and many custom ROMs are available
