More QuakeCon 2012 Details Revealed

On Wednesday morning, Bethesda released additional details surrounding the upcoming QuakeCon 2012 convention in Texas. id Software co-founder and technical director John Carmack will offer his annual keynote address once again, and will be followed by a number of panel discussions featuring prominent members of the interactive entertainment industry.

According to Bethesda, attendees will be able to check out panels such as The Game of Making Games, Designing Multiplayer Games That Last, GameTrailers 'Bonus Round,' and Idle Thumbs Podcast Live: Arena. Panelists will include Marty Stratton from id Software, Ted Price, President and CEO of Insomniac Games, Chet Faliszek and Tom Leonard from Valve Software, and Geoff Keighley, host of Spike’s GameTrailers.

The full line-up of panels and guest speakers will be announced in the coming days, Bethesda said.

"During the event, attendees will also have the opportunity to play Dishonored, the supernatural assassin action game under development at Arkane Studios, and Doom 3 BFG Edition, the full collection of genre-defining games from id Software, in Bethesda’s booth in the Exhibit Hall," Bethesda said.

Naturally we'll likely see a lot of coverage regarding Carmack's Head-Mounted Display (HMD) pet project which will be included in a Limited Edition bundle for Doom 3 BFG Edition on PC (eat that console gamers). The Doom 3 re-release is currently slated to ship in North America on October 16, 2012, then in Europe on October 19, 2012. But Carmack said he was shooting to have a batch of HMD sets for enthusiasts by the time QuakeCon was in full swing.

Question is, will this Limited Edition bundle for the PC take the spotlight, or does id Software have another Doom-like gift to reveal gamers? With that huge batch of Doom 4 assets spilling out across the Web back in March, it would seem likely that the company would be geared up to reveal something by now given that RAGE is officially in your hands.

Still, Bethesda seems hell-bent on promoting Dishonored at this year's event as the company mentioned. Even if Doom 4 doesn't make an appearance, there will be plenty for attendees to see in regards to exhibitors and sponsors on the show floor, including Intel, Alienware (Dell), Cooler Master, Western Digital and a batch of others.

QuakeCon 2012 will take place at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas on Thursday, August 2 through Sunday, August 5. The event is free for general admission attendees thanks to the support of id and Bethesda Softworks, as well as the QuakeCon volunteer staff and the 2012 event sponsors and exhibitors.

Doors to the QuakeCon BYOC (Bring-Your-Own-Computer) LAN party and gaming festival will open on Thursday, August 2 at 9am and will remain open through 12pm on Sunday, August 5. The QuakeCon 2012 Tournament lineup schedule can be accessed here. To pre-register for QuakeCon today, head here too.

Why? So we can hear more about how the PC is dead and how he is pushing sales for his (probably vastly overhyped and overpriced) virtual headset?

tlm manWhy? So we can hear more about how the PC is dead and how he is pushing sales for his (probably vastly overhyped and overpriced) virtual headset?I don't think he's ever said the PC is dead, but he is quick to identify legitimate problems with the platform (like having a million layers of abstraction) that hardcore gamers would prefer to pretend don't exist. Instead of burning him at the stake people should listen to what he as to say an improve things.

IF Rage PC is any indication on what Carmack has on improving the PC then yeah he is irrelevant and you can skip whatever he has to say.
