XFX Customizes Tri-fan Triple-slot Cooler for HD 7990

XFX has made a custom AMD Radeon HD 7990 that is actually based on the official Malta PCB from AMD. What makes it different is that it doesn't follow reference specifications for the cooler, which takes up three expansion slots and carries three fans.

The card runs at reference frequencies with the GPUs running at 950 MHz base and 1000 MHz boost. Memory runs at an effective speed of 6.0 GHz over two 384-bit memory interfaces. Each GPU can address 3 GB of memory, resulting in a total of 6 GB.

XFX's triple slot "Triple Dissipation" cooler is built using two large aluminum fin stacks, eight thick copper heat pipes, and three 90 mm fans. With regard to aesthetics, it follows the same principal design as other cards from XFX.

There was no indication of when the card would be released, nor was there any information on pricing, though based on the cost of previous custom Radeon HD 7990 cards, we can expect the card to be priced around $800.

Damn, it's quite massive, wonder how it overclocks

    somehow, this feels rather... late

I'm sure a few people will want this card. but in-light of new releases from AMD, and the lack of enthusiasm over the 7990 overall, it honestly makes me wonder why XFX bothers to do this

I do believe the reason XFX is doing this, is to address one of the reasons the card was so not poorly, but less so praised. And that would be the coil whine. Im assuming XFX took this on, just to say hey look we fixed it. I dont think this was a big investment for them overall.

damn how much does that thing weigh?

if it gets anywhere near as hot as XFX 7950 cards, then I'll pass thanks. Gaming at 85C with the rear of the card at 105C is not my idea of fun. Their coolers are bad beyonf belief.
