Duke Nukem Forever Date Confirmed for May
Yes it's true... there's no need to pinch yourself.
Well it seems that pigs can fly and hell is currently serving ice cubes to the locals, as Duke Nukem Forever has finally landed a confirmed release date after over a decade of delays.
Friday 2K Games officially announced that the long, long-awaited sequel to 3D Realms' classic FPS game Duke Nukem 3D will hit retail shelves on May 3, 2011 here in the States, and May 6, 2011 internationally for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.
"Put on your shades and prepare to step into the boots of Duke Nukem, whose legend has reached epic proportions in the years since his last adventure," reads the press release. "The alien hordes are invading and only Duke can save the world. Pig cops, alien shrink rays and enormous alien bosses can’t stop our hero from accomplishing his one and only goal: to save the world, save the babes and to be a bad-ass while doing it. The King arrives with an arsenal of over-the-top weapons, non-stop action, and unprecedented levels of interactivity. This game puts the pedal to the metal and tongue firmly in cheek. Shoot hoops, lift weights, read adult magazines, draw crude messages on whiteboards or ogle the many hot women that occupy Duke’s life - that is if you can pull yourself away long enough from destroying alien invaders.
"Duke Nukem was and will forever be a gaming icon, and this is his legend."
Fans eager to get an early hands-on glimpse of the highly-anticipated shooter can join the Duke Nukem First Access Club. However the drawback is that a membership certificate is only available for those who purchase the Game of the Year edition of Borderlands. Otherwise, you'll have to wait on a demo if/when it's released.
"When I said goodbye to 3D Realms and the original Duke Nukem 3D team in 1997 and soon after founded Gearbox Software, I never in my wildest dreams imagined that a day like today would come," said Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software. "Today I am proud, humbled and even astounded to announce that the day is coming at last for all gamers to be a part of video game history: Duke Nukem Forever will launch worldwide this May!"
In addition to the PR, 2K Games sent along the box art, a few screenshots and a video which was uploaded to YouTube (seen below). The question now will be this: once it arrives, will the game live up to all the hype, or was the decade-plus wait just too long for the game to possibly succeed?
Currently we're waiting on feedback from 2K Games in regards to minimal/recommended specs for the PC version, and if the company plans to release a demo for PC gamers.

squeee
*pinch*
This is going to be a good year for games (unlike a couple years we've been through). TES V, Diablo III, Duke Nukem Forever, Crysis 2, on and on and on.
Lots of good stuff just the first half of 2011.
I want it without the childish car.
I grew old waiting for it.
My grandpa once told me that when he was a boy, all he ever wanted was to play DNF. Unfortunately he died a while back.
unbelievable
hell, i'll still hit that
And there's the Game of The Year
All I can say is "Hail to the KING BABY!" Ill be the first to preorder this for PC and PS3. OH and for the GoTY ill buy that too!
I don't know, will it live up to the myth? Been waiting for more than 10 years to play this, I won't be happy with anything less than "Game of the millenium".
Bring it ON.
diablo 3 is only barely in alpha its not coming out this year. im gonna buy this for old times sake. bad or not ya gotta see what it ended up being.
I'm confused, if you own Borderlands Game of the Year you can sign-up for the certificate, or it comes with a new copy of the game? Dare I risk the scorn of many a hard-copy fanatic by saying I bought it off Steam and that's why I'm asking (think it was GOTY)?
Anyway, I never played the original Duke Nukem. I didn't have the computer for it, and all the naughty words and pixellated strippers just seemed too juvenile, and I was like 12 when it came out. As long as this thing doesn't blow like Doom III. I mean, everyone remember that bastardization of a childhood classic?

Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
/Off-Topic
It's April 1st already?
Yeah baby, bring it on. Been waiting too damn long for this, so it better bust open every other game ever made. For making us wait, the price should be 30 bucks. Yeah. Uh-huh. They'll charge us 100. Just watch.
Now if we can get Half-Life 3 out there. You listening Valve?
I'll believe it when I see it.
I'll believe it when I see it.
Agreed.
Sadly, by the description alone I have the sinking feeling that it is going to be awful...
I really hope it is what we have all been waiting for and then some though!
Its kinda more advanced than Serious Sam! But if that is the pixel quality Im seeing then....it prolly ruined the game play a bit for me atleast..
Gearbox, you know that if you don't deliver, that would prolly mean the end of you? ALL OF YOU?
Nah, but it would certainly damage your image FOREVER.
Cheers!
Ready for action!
Groovy!
Well SHIT!!! I can't believe it till I install it in my PC and click "Play"
All i wanna know is will the pc version have native game pad support. Spare me your "shooters are for kb/m only" I don't care.
Something about this being on 360 and ps3 seems like a bad sign. I consider DN as one of the fathers of fps, and I still consider fps on consoles to be a joke. To put it on consoles might undermine the history and significance of the title. But, who knows, maybe this will be the game that changes my mind about consoles. Realistically though, I don't expect much from the game. I want it to be fabulous just like everyone else, but it's been so long and been tossed around a bit which has probably only stunted quality development. I already have a growing feeling of dissapointment.
Awesome! does it have multiplayer? can you still hide in the heating ducts and remote detonate pipe bombs?
I played the original game a long long time ago - ancient history. I just might give the "new and improved" version a try.

but why?

same here, mostly because they are a joke. remember when microsoft was trying to put xbox live and windows live in 1 area where the console played with the 360? the canned that idea why? computer mid outkilled the consoles best by a LARGE margine.
that said, every time i see this game, they show off all the extra interactions, and they all seem to be something that is precicely controled.
No King lives forever... But this one juuuust might lol

eh i'd consider it dead and reborn more than living forever.
We'll know if we see it.
