Best PCI-E Card For ~$530
| GeForce 8800 GTX | |
|---|---|
| Codename: | G80 |
| Process: | 90nm |
| Universal Shaders: | 128 |
| Texture Units: | 64 |

| Core Speed MHz: | 575 |
| Memory Speed MHz: | 900 (1800 effective) |
The introduction of the 8800 Ultra - essentially an overclocked 8800 GTX - relegated the GTX to second-fastest-videocard-in-the-world status. But with the low-priced 8800 Ultras starting at the $680 mark, who in their right mind would pay the extra $150 for an overclock?
In all honesty, even the $250 cheaper 8800 GTS 320 MB would probably serve anyone well at resolutions below 1600x1200. But if you've got money to burn, play at high resolutions and will only settle for the top of the line - this is the card for you.

| Radeon X1650 PRO (GDDR3) | |

| Codename: | R530 |
| Process: | 80 and 90nm |
| Pixel Shaders: | 12 |
| Vertex Shaders: | 5 |

| Memory Bus: | 128-bit |
| Core Speed MHz: | 600 |
| Memory Speed MHz: | 700 (1400 effective) |
The X1650 PRO is a re-dressed X1600 XT with slightly higher clock speeds. The very high-speed memory for this class and efficient shaders help the X1650 PRO compare well to the 12-pipeline 7600 GS, beating it by a small margin in most benchmarks.
Newegg offers a Sapphire GDDR3 version of this card for $85 on newegg. Just make sure you're getting the fast GDDR3 version, not the slower DDR2-equipped card!
| GeForce 7600 GS | |
|---|---|
| Codename: | G73 |
| Process: | 90nm |
| Pixel Shaders: | 12 |
| Vertex Shaders: | 5 |
| Texture Units: | 12 |
| ROPs: | 8 |
| Memory Bus: | 128-bit |
| Core Speed MHz: | 400 |
| Memory Speed MHz: | 400 (800 effective) |
With identical features compared to its faster 7600 GT brethren, the 7600 GS lacks only the core and memory clock speeds-however, the GT's clock speeds are so high that the GS pales in comparison. Nevertheless, the 7600 GS is a good performer in this AGP segment.
