Barnes & Noble NOOK Hitting Currys, PC World, Argos, More

After all the Kindle talk we've had over the last few weeks, it's Barnes & Noble delivering ereader news today. The company this week announced that its NOOK Simple Touch and NOOK Simple Touch GlowLight ereaders are headed for UK shores. Barnes & Noble said the devices would be up for pre-order today with both to become available in time for the holiday shopping season.

The NOOK Simple Touch will be priced at £79, while the NOOK Simple Touch GlowLight will set you back £109. Barnes & Noble has the help of over 1,600 high street retailers when it comes to shifting units, so expect to see these devices at John Lewis, Argos, Sainsbury’s, Dixons and Waitrose, and Blackwell’s and Foyles. If you prefer to order your goods online and have the postman bring them to you, you'll be able to shop online at www.nook.co.uk beginning in early October.

"Our high quality NOOK Simple Touch and NOOK Simple Touch GlowLight products pack in a lightning fast, easy to use touchscreen and access to our robust NOOK content catalogue, in an incredibly lightweight form at an amazing value," said Jamie Iannone, President of Digital Products at Barnes & Noble. "NOOK Simple Touch puts the focus on reading instead of the technology, while NOOK Simple Touch GlowLight is the first product to hit the market that is perfect for both outdoor and bedtime reading, with a built-in reading light. We’re excited to give UK customers the opportunity to enjoy both of these devices, plus one of the world’s largest digital bookstores with more than 2.5 million books, newspapers and magazines."

The NOOK will be competing with the Kindle for shelf space this coming shopping season as Amazon brings its Kindle Fire tablet to the UK for the first time. The Kindle Fire will hit the UK at the end of October.

The Glowlight is a very exciting product, as I love to read on an E-reader, but I hate getting up to turn the lights off when I decide to go to sleep.
