'Mafia III' Arrives On October 7

It’s been six years since the last Mafia game, but 2K and development studio Hangar 13 are set to deliver another installment in the series later this year. Mafia III arrives on October 7.

Set in 1968 in New Bordeaux (a re-imagined New Orleans), you play as Lincoln Clay, a man who recently returned from a tour in Vietnam. However, Clay is on a path of vengeance against the Italian Mafia, the group that killed some of Clay’s closest friends, and the latest story trailer offers a glimpse of Clay’s bloody trail of revenge. You’ll have access to a variety of guns, melee weapons and cars as you make your way to the heart of the mob.

Mafia III was initially revealed last August at Gamescom, and for the team at Hangar 13, Mafia III will be its first game in development. The new 2K-owned studio is led by Haden Blackman, the former LucasArts franchise director and senior executive producer for some of the most popular Star Wars video games, including Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Previous Mafia games were action-based, but there was room for a deep story, as well. Blackman’s previous experience in game storytelling could deliver another powerful installment in series, but we’ll have to wait until October to see it unfold.

The release date announcement also comes with some pre-order bundles for the game. Anyone who places an order before release will get the “Family Kick-Back” pack, which contains three lieutenant-themed vehicles, a machine gun, shotgun and sniper rifle. Aside from the game’s standard edition, you can also opt to buy the $79.99 Deluxe Edition, which includes the game’s Season Pass as well as other post-release downloadable content. The Collector’s Edition includes all the contents of the Deluxe Edition in addition to art prints, an art book and a copy of the game’s soundtrack on vinyl. More details on the contents of the Collector’s Edition are coming soon, but the entire package will cost you $149.99.

Guys, go play Mafia 1 and see what a fantastic game it is. Then proceed to totally forget about Mafia 2 and probably Mafia 3 as well, because they are terrible.
