Nvidia GeForce 6200 TurboCache: Fast Name, Slower Speed

The 6200-TC Cards In Detail

Once the TurboCache card is installed, the technical tricks that make it work are all but hidden from the user. The driver simply reports a maximum available frame buffer of 128 MB, making no distinction between the card's local memory and system memory. This is annoying, since the user has no way of telling whether the system is equipped with a 16 MB or a 32 MB TurboCache model. The 64 MB model is easier to spot, as it reports a 256 MB frame buffer.

The GeForce 6200 TurboCache cards with 16 MB and 32 MB of local memory use the same PCB. While the smaller version sports only one memory module, the 32 MB variant carries a second memory processor on the back of the card.

Nvidia reference card uses only a passive cooling solution. The memory processor is situated above the cooler and a little to the right.

The 32 MB TurboCache version comes with a second memory module, which can be found on the back of the card.

On the 16 MB model, the silkscreen for the second memory processor is vacant.

In total, the 64 MB model uses four memory processors. Pictured here is a review sample from MSI.
