AMD Video Shows Dragon OC'ing, Skateboarding

Next news
3:00 PM - May 11, 2009 by Marcus Yam

Want to see some overclocking? Want to see some skating? Want to grind that rail? Check out this video of AMD Phenom II extremeness.

Throughout March and April we ran our AMD CPU Virtual Overclocking competition. Our winner “Gomeler” ran his AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8 GHz CPU all the way up to 5.16 GHz using a 240 MHz bus speed and 21.5x multiplier. Our first winner “V2-V3” was able to take his AMD Phenom II X4 940 (3 GHz) to a chart-topping 5.6 GHz using a 275 MHz bus speed and 20.5x multiplier.

Want to see some more extreme overclocking? Overclocker Chew* is the subject of an AMD video and he shows off Dragon Technology overclocking with a stock AMD Phenom II X4 955 (3.2 GHz) cooled using air, phase, dry ice, and liquid nitrogen.

Chew* used a Gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P as his reference platform and was able to achieve some pretty amazing frequencies. Gigabyte has been touting its Ultra Durable 3 (UD) platform a lot recently. Even during our own overclocking exhibition, one of the overclockers ended up switching from an Asus board to a Gigabyte board in order to achieve better overclocking stability.

Chew* was able to take his the CPU to 4515 MHz on air cooling, 5167 MHz on dry ice, and 6405 MHz on liquid nitrogen.

Click here to see the overclocking in action, along with some mild mannered skateboard tricks.

Look for our own video and results with AMD coming soon!

Leave it to AMD. Great product and marketing that stinks. I guess some things never change.
