If I am not mistaken the keys will even work on Steam. If someone can confirm this those who don't have BC2 may want to grab it for $5 and then activate the key on Steam. -

I believe you are half right. It will be released on others such as D2D
and while that version may not require Origin to be running I have a feeling they are going to force all created accounts in the game to also be Origin accounts. So for example if I buy the game and do not have a Origin account (which I actually do not at this time) make a in game account it will also become a valid Origin account and thus force me into membership.
In no way am I saying this is 100% certain nor do I claim to have any sources telling me such, its just a gut feeling.
