1080p gaming isn't the primary target for any of these cards. Yes, ray tracing games at maxed out settings are still pretty demanding, but most games become CPU limited even with lesser graphics cards. The 7900 XTX is down to just a 7% lead over the XT model, and it's only 16% faster than the 6950 XT. And speaking of CPU bottlenecks, the RTX 4090 lead has dropped to just 5% now.
Even if you're interested in esports and high refresh rates, cards like the 7900 XTX still don't make a lot of sense. Most esports games are so lightweight that you can easily break 300 fps even with a relatively modest GPU. And don't forget that you really need a high refresh rate monitor before 200+ fps starts to make a lot of sense.
Bottom line: If you're thinking about buying an RX 7900 XTX, you really should have at least a 2560x1440 display, perhaps even 3440x1440.
