Application Benchmarks: Productivity
Let’s begin the productivity benchmarks by scrutinizing AVG anti-virus performance:
Wow, we’re seeing a disappointing 6% performance increase here. Clearly, the system is bottlenecked by the multiple hard drive reads, and the hard drive speed hasn’t scaled with our CPU overclock.
Let’s move on to the compression benchmark, WinRAR:
WinRAR is showing us an 18% performance increase—better than AVG, but still quite a ways off of our 35% overclock. We can see that WinRAR is also hard disk bottlenecked. And finally, WinZIP:
WinZIP shows an impressive 29% speed increase, which is much closer to our 35% CPU speed boost. Perhaps WinZIP does a better job of optimizing the time the hard disk is read to minimize hard disk speed impact on performance?
