Amped Wireless's TAP-EX3 Touch Screen Wi-Fi Range Extender Promises Increased Network Coverage

Amped Wireless recently announced their new TAP-EX3, a high-power touchscreen AC1750 range extender. The TAP-EX3 is the latest model in Amped Wireless's lineup of TAP devices designed for the average consumer who wishes to increase the range of their network using what Amped Wireless is describing as a simple setup process. According to the company, the TAP-EX3 offers up to 12,000 square feet of total coverage to help eliminate dead or weak spots in the home.

The TAP-EX3 utilizes a Qualcomm processor and comes with three 2.4 GHz amplifiers, three 5 GHz amplifiers, and six low-noise amplifiers (for a total of 12 advanced amplifiers.) The range extender also has three high gain antennas (two internal and one external) for wireless communication. Altogether, the TAP-EX3's components can provide speeds of up to 450 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 1,300 Mbps at 5 GHz.

Physical interfaces on the TAP-EX3 include five gigabit LAN ports that provide connectivity for Ethernet devices, and one USB 2.0 port that can used to share files using attachable storage media.

Security-wise, the TAP-EX3 supports the standard set of wireless protocols, including WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA Mixed and WPS.

As is true for any of Amped Wireless's TAP products, the TAP-EX3 comes with a 4" touchscreen interface designed to make extending a home network easier. According to Amped Wireless, the setup is as simple as scanning for available signals and choosing the correct network, which can all be done via the touchscreen without needing a computer.

The TAP-EX3 touchscreen also gives users simplified control access by allowing them to set a schedule when the signal is available as well as adjust the power and range of the device. Additionally, the screen can be set to "Clock Mode," presenting a digital clock that complements the TAP-EX3's design for when the touchscreen is not being used.

Amped Wireless also included its Wi-Fi Analytics Tool app, available for Android and Windows, which helps ensure that the TAP-EX3 is placed in an optimal location.

The TAP-EX3 High Power Touch Screen AC1750 Range Extender is currently up for pre-order for an MSRP of $199.99 on the Amped Wireless online store, with shipping slated to begin on November 11. It will land at brick-and-mortar and other online stores in the weeks to follow.
