Nyko Type Pad For PlayStation 4 Available For $29.99 At GameStop

There's been word on the street about the Nyko Type Pad for the Playstation 4 for a while, but now the gaming accessory is finally officially available through retailers.

The Nyko Type Pad is essentially a miniature keyboard that you can attach to the DualShock 4 controller, which makes typing on the Sony-made console a heap easier. The pad connects to the PlayStation 4 through a Bluetooth connection, and it has its own battery pack built in. Although it's an attachment for the DualShock 4 controller, there are no electrical connections between the two aside from a headphone jack passthrough. To charge the unit, you can use any standard Micro-USB charger.

The layout is a standard QWERTY layout, with some additional shortcuts and an analog navigation nub to traverse your way through menus. The extra keys include "@", ".com" to make typing email addresses and websites a little easier, and there is a selection of less commonly used symbols that are accessible through the shift function.

The MSRP was set at $34.99, but the street price is a little lower, with the Type Pad costing a wee bit friendlier $29.99 at GameStop. At other retailers it still goes for the MSRP price.

It charges off a headphone jack? Never heard of that before. It must be a tiny trickle charge.

no , it charges via micro USB. It just has a headphone pass through since it covers up the jack otherwise

This with controller itself and a USB bluetooth receiver seems more practical than a steam controller sadly.

all they need is keyboard and mouse support in games and there you go... may not be the best pc but would be better than what is currently offered for many games.

For just entering text here and there, this is great! Right now I have a full sized USB keyboard stashed behind my TV stand for those times when I need to type. This, being small, I can leave on a coffee table and grab it when I need it and I don't need to plug it in to make it work. Or I could leave in attached to the controller, but I really see no need for that with the way i use my PS4. Oh, the price is right too.
