The AMD Ryzen 9 5950X is one of the leading desktop processors that you can purchase today, which is why is has spent considerable time on our Best CPU for gaming list. Though Intel's new Intel Core i9-12900K beats it on some benchmarks, the Ryzen 9 5950X still packs a mighty punch with 16 cores and 32 threads of Zen 3 goodness. This chip is in great demand among power users who game or use heavily-threaded applications such as those for 3D rendering.

The Ryzen 9 5950X has a $799 MSRP and is usually on sale for around $750. However, eBay is currently selling the flagship Zen 3 desktop processor at an all-time low price of $679. If you can't get it or prefer not to get it from eBay, Newegg also has the 5950X for $719. In addition, if you have a Micro Center nearby, you can save an additional $20 at a price of $699.99. In other words, these are among the best CPU deals that we've seen so far.

The Ryzen 9 5950X is a flagship multi-core beast with 16 Zen 3 cores, running at a 3.4 GHz base clock and 4.9 GHz boost clock. This chip is handles gaming and productivity tasks with ease with comparably low power draw versus the competition from Intel.

While the Ryzen 9 5950X is one of the best CPUs for gaming, it's also a beast in productivity tasks thanks to its solid multi-threaded performance. The processor has a base clock of 3.4 GHz and features a maximum boost frequency of 4.9 GHz. Built on TSMC's 7nm FinFET process node, it has 8MB of L2 cache and a staggering 64MB of L3 cache. Despite its overachieving specs, the Ryzen 9 5950X has a relatively tame TDP of just 105 watts.

The Ryzen 9 5950X still sets the bar extremely high for desktop processor power efficiency compared to the computing Core i9-12900K but comes up short regarding pricing. Even with its new low price of $699 at Micro Center, the Ryzen 9 5950X is still over $100 more expensive than the $589 Core i9-12900K. However, that price difference can be easily erased when you factor in the costs of high-end Z690 motherboards and DDR5 memory modules (if you want the best performance). 

In any case, the Ryzen 9 5950X remains a standout flagship processor that pairs nicely with the best X570 motherboards available on the market.     Alder Lake has to be really getting hurt by the DDR5 situation ...

    Small advantage over DDR4
    Most Motherboard manufacturers chose to focus on DDR5 boards so I don't see many DDR4 options available.
    The only real advantage for intel right now is at least it has IGP. If I'm trying to create a new build but can't get a graphics card AMD is not an option at the high end.

    Intel selling at full price since it's new, yet I see full stocks everywhere, which means people don't buy it like it's hot.

    Zen3 dropped in price after 1 year, guess what? Every Zen CPU dropped after 1 year, each generation, nothing new here, it was expected.

    I don't see the supposed positive take on the Alder Lake sales, or the negative take on the Zen3 sales...

    what a garbage deal, the sale price has been ~around 760$ for like a year

    a whole 60$ savings for 1 year old cpu, and even then 12900 is newer and 150$ less

    This, as well as there being no DDR5 at any of the major US online retailers. If you can't buy memory, you aren't going to be buying a CPU. Even still, 12900k is not available from 1st party sellers.

    Where exactly is that price available to buy from?

    I could not find it not even close on Amazon or newegg... and it's $649 at Microcenter. I call this $589 price BS.

    So it's actually 5950X at $699 vs 12900k at $649, now that's a nice dilemma to have. Great price competition and Alder Lake is not the easy choice in this situation, not at all.

    You think that's a garbage deal? 5950X is still 790 euro in lots of EU shops, in all of them, I just checked now... maybe somewhere is cheaper, but not from where I can buy.

    So $699 at MC looks like a steal.

    Also, this is a halo product, like the 3090, it does not need to make sense price wise, it's not for people like me who like price / perf conscious buying. Maybe not for you either...

    Unfortunately we are not seeing good deals in the UK. The 5900X has some BF deals listings £449 but offers at this price have happened several times already so nothing noteworthy for BF. Before the BF deal it’s generally 460-470 recently so not much of saving.
