Four SAS 6 Gb/s RAID Controllers, Benchmarked And Reviewed
Oct 5, 2011 - in Reviews
We got our hands on four SAS 6 Gb/s RAID controllers from Adaptec, Areca, HighPoint, and LSI and ran them through RAID 0, 5, 6, and 10 workloads to test their mettle. Does your system need eight more ports of connectivity? We can answer that!
SSDs In RAID: A Performance Scaling Analysis
Mar 25, 2011 - in Reviews
RAID arrays with dozens of hard drives are not uncommon for reaching certain performance levels. We demonstrate how beautifully SSD RAID arrays can scale. There may come a time when a few flash-based drives will replace entire farms of hard disks.
Next-Generation SAS: 6 Gb/s Storage Hits The Enterprise
Aug 31, 2009 - in Reviews
With SAS 6 Gb/s hardware hitting the market in force, storage bandwidth per port doubles and we see the introduction of several new features. The compatibility problems of first-gen SAS should also become a thing of the past with 6 Gb/s technology.
Another Record Broken: 6 Gb SAS, 16 SSDs, 3.4 GB/s!
Aug 26, 2009 - in Reviews
Our initial hardcore RAID setup (with 16 Intel X25-E SSD drives) reached 2.3 GB/s on 3 Gb/s controllers. But we wanted more speed. Intel and LSI provided the latest 6 Gb/s, PCI 2.0 HBAs, which allowed us to push the array’s throughput beyond 3 GB/s.
Southbridge Battle: 780a, ICH10 and SB750, Compared
Aug 11, 2009 - in Reviews
Modern southbridges support multiple RAID levels via software, but do they deliver decent performance? We used six Intel SSDs and tortured the top three by AMD, Intel and Nvidia. As if that weren't cruel enough, we added LSI's 6 Gb/s SAS card to the mix.
